The Bowman/Metheny Cemetery is located in Licking Township, Crawford Co, Il. Section 15, T-8N-R. 13 W on the east bank of Muddy Creek, and not visible from the highway.
As of 29 Aug. 1995 there are 12 monuments extant.
1--Samuel Bowman, died Feb. 27 1877, aged 68, 4M 17D
2--George W. Bowman, son of S. & N. Bowman, died March 25 1871
3--Naomi S. Bowen,wife of James Harvey Bowen, born August 21 1851, died May 16 1911
4--David Bowman, died January 10, 1894, aged 80Y 9M 10D
5--Angeline Bowman, died February 17, 1877, aged 39Y 13D --infant son of D & A Bowman
7--Elmer Bowman, son of D & A Bowman, died September 5, 1875, aged 1Y 6M 14D
8--Mary E. Bowman, wife of Hiram Bowman, died September 26, 1873, aged 29Y 10M 14D
9--Infant daughter of H & M Bowman, died September 10, 1870
10--Evaline Bowman, daughter of W.H. & J.A Bowman, died August 17, 1871, aged 3 Months
11--Berta O., daughter of A.F. & J. Keenan, died May 2, 1890, aged 7M 22D
12--Samuel Loyd, son of T.E & E.B. Metheny, died January 25, 1902, aged 6M 25D
The cemetery was not being cared for well, and the last few years I have been taking care of it. Samuel Bowman is my G-GFather and David Bowman is his brother. I will be very glad to help anyone with indentification of these burials and would be interested to meet their descendants. I have photographed the existing stones and have a booklet ready for printing--just have not had it done yet.
